Points & Miles Guide

I Compared 3 Cancún All-Inclusives on Points — Here's the Real Winner

Hyatt Vivid, Hyatt Ziva, and Marriott Cancún, side by side. Same destination, three very different price tags.

Updated July 2026 · World of Hyatt & Marriott Bonvoy Award Charts

Every points account has a Cancún redemption in it somewhere. But "Cancún all-inclusive" isn't one decision — it's at least three, and the points cost swings by 5x depending on which one you pick. I put the three most-asked-about options side by side: the cheapest, the most iconic, and the one that doesn't use a transfer at all.

This isn't "which is best" in the abstract — it's "which is best for what you're actually optimizing for." Cheapest points cost, best-known brand, or not touching your Chase/Amex balance at all. Here's the real breakdown.

One thing before we start: Hyatt and Marriott use completely different pricing systems. Hyatt's all-inclusive chart is fixed by category (A-F) with published off-peak/standard/peak tiers. Marriott uses dynamic pricing that moves with demand — the number below is a typical rate, not a fixed one. Always confirm your actual dates on hyatt.com or marriott.com before transferring or booking.

01 · CHEAPEST
Hyatt Vivid Grand Island
CANCÚN, MEXICO · CATEGORY B
Points / Night
20,000
Off-Peak
17,000
Cash Rate
$300–400
~1.7¢ per point

This is one of Hyatt's newest all-inclusive resorts in Cancún, and new properties almost always launch at a lower category before getting bumped up in the next chart revision — so this is a "book it before it changes" situation. The tradeoff: there's no direct beach access, but you're a short cab ride from the Hotel Zone. What you get instead is a massive pool complex, multiple restaurants, and a livelier, more social atmosphere than Hyatt's traditional all-inclusives.

Best for: The lowest points cost of the three, if you don't need to be directly on the sand.

02 · MOST ICONIC
Hyatt Ziva Cancún
CANCÚN, MEXICO · CATEGORY F
Points / Night
50,000
Off-Peak
42,000
Cash Rate
$700–800
~1.5¢ per point

This is the resort everyone pictures when they say "Cancún all-inclusive" — water park, kids' club, dolphins on-site, and an adults-only pool section for when you need a break. It's also the one that got hit hardest by this year's chart changes: this used to be a 25,000-point night. It's now 50,000. The points cost doubled, but so did the resort's popularity and cash pricing, so the cents-per-point value held up better than you'd expect.

Best for: Families who want the full water-park-and-kids-club experience and don't mind paying double what this used to cost in points.

⚠️ If you were planning around the old 25,000-point rate: that pricing is gone. This is the single biggest reason to check current award charts before scripting or planning around any specific number — even a property you've booked before can double in cost overnight.

03 · NO TRANSFER NEEDED
Marriott Cancún, An All-Inclusive Resort
CANCÚN, MEXICO · DYNAMIC PRICING
Typical / Night
60,000
5th Night
Free
Cash Rate
$700+
Value varies — dynamic pricing

This one works differently from the other two, and it's worth understanding why. Marriott Bonvoy doesn't have a fixed award chart — pricing moves with demand, the way a paid hotel rate would. That also means there's no good transfer path here: Chase and Amex both transfer to Marriott at roughly 0.7 cents per point, which is bad math regardless of the property. This one only makes sense if you already hold Marriott Bonvoy points directly — through stays, a co-branded card, or a business spend strategy — not through a cross-transfer.

The redemption trick that actually matters here: Marriott's 5th-night-free benefit on award stays. Book 5 consecutive nights on points, and the cheapest of the five is automatically free — often the single best lever available on a Marriott redemption.

Best for: Anyone already sitting on Marriott Bonvoy points who doesn't want to touch their Chase or Amex balance at all.

Side-by-Side

Resort Points/Night Cash Rate Best For
Hyatt Vivid Grand Island 20,000 $300–400 Cheapest points cost
Hyatt Ziva Cancún 50,000 $700–800 Families, water park
Marriott Cancún ~60,000 $700+ Existing Bonvoy holders

The actual verdict: if you're optimizing purely for points efficiency, Hyatt Vivid wins — lowest cost, solid value, and it's likely to get more expensive once Hyatt notices how good the deal is. If you want the resort experience everyone's talking about and don't mind paying for it, Hyatt Ziva is worth the 50,000 points. And if you already have Marriott Bonvoy points sitting unused, the Marriott property is free money you're not otherwise touching — but it's never worth transferring Chase or Amex points into that balance to get there.

How to Book Each One

For Hyatt Vivid or Hyatt Ziva (Chase transfer):

1
Confirm award space first. Search the resort directly on hyatt.com and confirm your dates show up on points before transferring anything.
2
Open your Chase app → Rewards → Transfer Points → World of Hyatt. Create a free World of Hyatt account if you don't already have one.
3
Link your Hyatt account to Chase Ultimate Rewards, then transfer the exact points you confirmed in step one.
4
Transfers are instant but irreversible. Only transfer once you're ready to book immediately.
5
Book the award on hyatt.com using your newly transferred points.

For Marriott Cancún (direct Bonvoy redemption, no transfer):

1
Check your Bonvoy balance in the Marriott Bonvoy app — this only makes sense with points you already have, not a cross-transfer.
2
Search Marriott Cancún and book 5 consecutive nights to trigger the 5th-night-free benefit automatically.
3
Compare against cash before booking — Marriott's dynamic pricing means the points value shifts by date, so check the cash rate for the same dates first.

Chase Ultimate Rewards and World of Hyatt transfer at a 1:1 ratio, typically instant. Never transfer speculatively — confirm the award is bookable first. Chase and Amex to Marriott Bonvoy is a different story: that transfer runs at roughly 0.7 cents per point, well under what your points are worth elsewhere, so it's on the permanent skip list regardless of which property you're eyeing.
